Our Relocation To El Salvador

Hello (Hola),

My name is Hugh. I am 76 years old and have spent much of my life traveling the world. I served 14 years in the United States Army, an experience that allowed me to live in and visit many countries. After my military service, I worked most of my professional life in logistics and fleet management. I retired in October of 2011.

My wife, Elizabeth, is from El Salvador. We retired and moved here in November 2011, where we built our home near Cara Sucia and began a new chapter of our lives.

I first visited El Salvador in March of 2004 and immediately fell in love with the country. Over the years, Elizabeth and I returned two or three times a year, and each visit left me feeling peaceful, calm, and renewed. There is something special here — in the warmth of the people, the beaches, the mountains, the history, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.

In December, I published my first book, Harmony of the Cosmos, which is now available on Amazon in both paperback and eBook formats. The book reflects my life journey — shaped by service, travel, family, and a lifelong curiosity about the spiritual and cosmic connections that bind us all.

This blog continues that journey. Here, I write about daily life in El Salvador — the places, the people, the challenges, and the opportunities — as well as current events, regional developments, and other topics we find interesting and worth reflecting on. From local news and social issues to personal observations and moments of quiet beauty, these posts are written from lived experience and a deep respect for this country and Central America as a whole.

Beneath it all, my writing is guided by a lifelong sense of connection — to nature, to people, and to something larger than ourselves. Living in El Salvador has deepened that awareness, reminding me to slow down, listen, and pay attention to the rhythms of daily life and to the wider universe we all share.

Mi nombre es Hugh. Tengo 76 años y he pasado gran parte de mi vida viajando por el mundo. Serví durante 14 años en el Ejército de los Estados Unidos, una experiencia que me permitió vivir y visitar muchos países. Después de mi servicio militar, trabajé la mayor parte de mi vida profesional en logística y gestión de flotas. Me jubilé en octubre de 2011.

Mi esposa, Elizabeth, es salvadoreña. Nos jubilamos y nos mudamos a El Salvador en noviembre de 2011, donde construimos nuestro hogar cerca de Cara Sucia y comenzamos una nueva etapa de nuestras vidas.

Visité El Salvador por primera vez en marzo de 2004 y me enamoré del país de inmediato. A lo largo de los años, Elizabeth y yo regresábamos dos o tres veces al año y cada visita me dejaba una sensación de paz, calma y renovación. Hay algo especial aquí — en la calidez de su gente, sus playas, sus montañas, su historia y la belleza tranquila de la vida cotidiana.

En diciembre publiqué mi primer libro, Harmony of the Cosmos, que está disponible en Amazon tanto en formato impreso como en digital. El libro refleja el recorrido de mi vida, marcado por el servicio, los viajes, la familia y una curiosidad constante por las conexiones espirituales y cósmicas que nos unen a todos.

Este blog es una continuación de ese camino. Aquí escribo sobre la vida diaria en El Salvador — sus lugares, su gente, sus desafíos y oportunidades — así como sobre acontecimientos actuales en El Salvador, temas regionales y otras cosas que consideramos interesantes y dignas de reflexión. Desde noticias locales y temas sociales hasta observaciones personales y momentos de belleza sencilla, estos escritos nacen de la experiencia vivida y de un profundo respeto por este país y por Centroamérica en general.

En el fondo, mi manera de escribir está guiada por una conexión de toda la vida — con la naturaleza, con las personas y con algo más grande que nosotros mismos. Vivir en El Salvador ha profundizado esa conciencia, recordándome la importancia de ir más despacio, escuchar y prestar atención a los ritmos de la vida diaria y del universo del cual todos formamos parte.
