A New Kind of Gathering in the Heart of San Salvador

Inside the National Library of El Salvador (BINAES), dozens of young Salvadorans gathered yesterday with a common question on their minds: How can artificial intelligence and digital finance shape the future of our country?

The event, called the Social Innovation Forum: Leadership Country, brought together participants from the eastern, western, and central regions of El Salvador. Organized by Nexus Strategies with support from the Historic Center Authority (Aplan), the forum focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growing role of technology in national development.

This was not a typical business conference. Instead, it reflected a country in transition. Young Salvadorans are no longer focused only on survival. Today, many are talking about innovation, creativity, technology, and opportunity.

Nexus Strategies and a Changing National Vision

Alessandro Orellana of Nexus Strategies opened the event by describing how the organization was born from the transformation currently taking place across El Salvador.

According to Orellana, Nexus aims to connect institutions, communities, businesses, and entrepreneurs into a shared ecosystem of innovation and investment.

The event itself reflected that mission. Government leaders, private companies, and grassroots digital innovators all shared the same space, exchanging ideas about the future of the country.

From Survival to Innovation

Several government officials participated in the forum, including:

  • Ivania Handal, National Secretary of Youth
  • Raúl Castillo, Minister of Culture
  • Adriana Larín, Director of Aplan

One of the most memorable moments came from Ivania Handal, who described the shift many Salvadorans have experienced in recent years:

“Before we were with that survival chip. Now we are talking about innovation, artificial intelligence, technology, art, revitalized public spaces.”

Her words captured something many people in El Salvador can now feel in everyday life. As security, tourism, and investment continue improving, conversations are increasingly turning toward growth, opportunity, and long-term development.

The Historic Center and New Opportunities

Meanwhile, Adriana Larín spoke about how the revitalization of San Salvador’s Historic Center is helping create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and creative industries.

She noted that El Salvador has already received 1.7 million international visitors this year. As tourism grows, so does the demand for digital services, creative businesses, online commerce, and technology-based solutions.

Her message to the young audience was simple:

Start now. Don’t wait for perfection.

That mindset closely mirrors the startup culture seen around the world, where experimentation and adaptability often matter more than waiting for the perfect conditions.

Bitcoin Beach and a Global Story Born in El Zonte

One of the most anticipated speakers was Román Martínez of Bitcoin Beach.

Martínez explained how the Bitcoin Beach project helped transform El Zonte from a small surf town into what many now recognize as the world’s first circular Bitcoin economy.

According to Martínez, the project began with one important goal:

“Getting young people to dream of a future within El Salvador.”

Bitcoin Beach has become more than a local experiment. It is now an international symbol of grassroots innovation and community-driven digital finance.

Why These Forums Matter

Events like this are becoming more common across El Salvador as the country continues building a stronger digital and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Several factors are helping drive this movement:

  • Improved security conditions
  • Greater openness to digital innovation
  • Growing international attention
  • A rising entrepreneurial culture among youth
  • Expanding tourism and investment

At the same time, El Salvador is increasingly becoming a destination for technology forums, blockchain conferences, and digital finance summits. The country is positioning itself as a regional hub for emerging technologies.

Why This Matters for El Salvador’s Future

The conversations happening at forums like this connect directly to broader national trends.

Artificial Intelligence Is Expanding Rapidly

Universities and private academies are beginning to offer more programs focused on artificial intelligence, programming, and data science.

Meanwhile, local startups are experimenting with AI-powered tools for agriculture, logistics, customer service, and business automation.

Government institutions are also exploring digital public services and automation systems.

Digital Finance Continues Growing

El Salvador’s Bitcoin strategy continues attracting international attention from the fintech and blockchain sectors.

At the same time, digital wallets, tokenization projects, and new financial technologies are gradually becoming part of the country’s economic landscape.

Tourism Is Creating New Tech Demand

With millions of international visitors arriving every year, businesses increasingly need:

  • Digital booking systems
  • AI-assisted customer service
  • Multilingual platforms
  • Digital mapping and tourism tools

This creates opportunities for young entrepreneurs who understand both technology and local culture.

Young People Are at the Center

Perhaps most importantly, young Salvadorans are becoming central to the country’s long-term growth strategy.

Programs focused on training, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and innovation are expanding. Events like this help build networks and opportunities that did not exist only a few years ago.

A Personal Reflection

Watching young Salvadorans speak confidently about artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and digital finance says a great deal about how much this country has changed in recent years.

Not long ago, many young people were simply trying to find stability. Today, many are beginning to imagine building futures, businesses, and ideas right here in El Salvador.

And inside BINAES—surrounded by books, ideas, and the energy of a changing country—you can truly feel that shift taking place.
