A high-level Canadian business delegation recently visited El Salvador, signaling growing international interest in the country’s economic transformation and long-term development potential.
The group, made up of eight Canadian business leaders, traveled to El Salvador between April 28 and May 1. Their visit focused on exploring opportunities in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, housing, infrastructure, and technology — sectors that continue to expand as the country modernizes and attracts foreign investment.
The visit was coordinated by EmpoderarSV, an organization dedicated to connecting El Salvador with international investors and business operators capable of bringing large-scale projects to the country.
Meetings With Government and National Leaders
During their stay, the delegation met with representatives from Invest in El Salvador, advisors to the Presidency, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Health. The group also met with President Nayib Bukele to discuss development priorities and investment opportunities.
According to reports, the meetings focused on practical partnerships and long-term projects rather than short-term speculation. The delegation examined areas where Canadian experience and investment could help strengthen key sectors of the Salvadoran economy.
Healthcare and Digital Innovation
One of the most important topics discussed during the visit was healthcare modernization.
Sanjay Malaviya, founder of RLDatix, evaluated opportunities to introduce advanced digital solutions into El Salvador’s healthcare system. RLDatix operates in thousands of healthcare institutions across dozens of countries and specializes in healthcare technology and patient safety systems.
Malaviya reportedly expressed strong interest in El Salvador’s DoctorSV initiative, describing it as one of the most advanced digital health programs he has seen internationally.
The delegation also included Karen Lee, President and CEO of Parkinson Canada. She discussed possible collaboration in patient-centered care, public-policy development, and healthcare knowledge sharing.
These discussions reflect how El Salvador is increasingly being viewed as a country willing to adopt modern systems and move quickly on innovation.
Strengthening Pharmaceutical Supply Chains
Another key area of interest was pharmaceuticals and medical supply resilience.
Jaiveer Singh, CEO of Mint Pharmaceuticals, explored ways El Salvador could diversify its pharmaceutical suppliers and strengthen the reliability of its national medicine supply chain.
For countries around the world, supply chain security has become a growing concern in recent years. Reliable access to essential medicines is now viewed as both an economic and public health priority.
The discussions suggest El Salvador is looking beyond short-term growth and focusing on building long-term stability in critical sectors.
Housing and Infrastructure Development
Housing and urban development were also major parts of the visit.
Several members of the delegation came from large-scale construction and real-estate organizations with experience managing billion-dollar projects across North America.
Among them were:
- Ben Bakst, CEO and co-founder of Baz Group
- Marcus Gillam, CEO of Gillam Group
- Frank Franciosa of Coreslab International
- Cailey Heaps, CEO of Heaps Estrin
Together, these executives discussed housing expansion, commercial development, and infrastructure modernization.
As El Salvador continues improving security and attracting investment, the demand for housing, tourism infrastructure, and commercial development is expected to grow steadily.
EmpoderarSV’s Growing Role
The visit was organized by EmpoderarSV, which aims to build connections between El Salvador and international investors with real operational experience.
John McBride, one of the founders of EmpoderarSV, emphasized the importance of bringing experienced international business leaders to the country to support economic transformation and innovation.
George McBride also highlighted plans to continue expanding investment relationships and helping international entrepreneurs establish operations in El Salvador.
Organizations like EmpoderarSV are becoming increasingly important as the country seeks not only investment capital, but also experienced partners capable of managing large-scale projects successfully.
Why El Salvador Is Gaining International Attention
For decades, many foreign investors viewed El Salvador cautiously. Today, that perception appears to be changing.
Improved security conditions, faster government execution, infrastructure investment, and growing international visibility are drawing attention from business leaders around the world.
Several members of the delegation reportedly commented on the speed at which projects can move forward in El Salvador compared to many other countries.
That growing confidence is becoming one of the country’s strongest economic advantages.
Looking Toward the Future
The visit is expected to lead to additional discussions and early-stage development projects in areas such as:
- Digital healthcare
- Pharmaceutical supply chains
- Housing development
- Infrastructure construction
- Technology integration
While many of these projects are still in early stages, the visit itself sends a strong message that El Salvador is increasingly being seen as a serious destination for international business and investment.
For a country working to reshape its global image, the arrival of experienced Canadian business leaders represents more than a diplomatic visit. It reflects growing confidence in El Salvador’s future and its long-term potential.
