El Salvador Steps Onto the Global Stage
El Salvador continues taking confident steps onto the international stage. The announcement that the country will host the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2027 marks another moment in which global institutions are recognizing the nation’s growing stability and leadership capacity.
The news emerged during a meeting between Vice President Félix Ulloa and United Nations representatives Raúl Salazar and Jorge Samaniego, who confirmed El Salvador as the next host nation for the important regional gathering.
A High-Level Conference Focused on Agriculture and Development
The FAO Regional Conference is far more than a routine diplomatic meeting. It is one of the most important forums in the hemisphere for agricultural policy, food security, climate resilience, and rural development.
Government officials, technical experts, and international organizations from across Latin America and the Caribbean come together to discuss the challenges shaping the future of agriculture and sustainability in the region.
For El Salvador, hosting this conference represents a strong vote of confidence — not only in the country’s institutions, but also in its ability to facilitate meaningful regional dialogue.
Strengthening Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development
During the meeting, officials discussed ongoing cooperation between the Government of El Salvador, the United Nations, and the National Council for Development (CND). These efforts include preparation of the country’s next Voluntary National Report and continued work on indicators connected to the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the same time, the discussion reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening climate resilience — an increasingly urgent issue throughout Central America as drought, water shortages, and extreme weather continue affecting agriculture and daily life.
Peacebuilding Through Water Access in the Trifinio Region
One of the most significant initiatives highlighted during the discussions was the Peace Without Borders project, supported by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
The initiative will benefit 13 municipalities in the Trifinio region, focusing on peacebuilding mechanisms tied to water access and regional cooperation. In many parts of Central America, water is more than a natural resource — it is directly connected to stability, economic opportunity, and social harmony.
Projects like this show how environmental cooperation can also become a pathway toward long-term peace and development.
Institutions Working Together for the Future
Representatives from the FAO also emphasized the collaborative work taking place among Plan Trifinio, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, UNDP, and other strategic partners.
Their shared goal is to strengthen rural communities, improve food production systems, and help the region adapt to the growing pressures created by climate change.

Vice President Ulloa expressed gratitude to the United Nations representatives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to coordinated international cooperation.
