It also matters that the law includes regulation, emergency planning, penalties, and clear liability, showing an effort to take safety seriously.
Even so, caution remains part of the picture.
Those are good signs.
But I am uneasy about the speed of the timeline. At the same time, the cost must be explained more clearly, waste management needs a fuller public discussion, and the institutions responsible for safety must have the independence and strength to do their job properly.
Nuclear technology is not something a country should fear blindly.
But it is also not something a country should embrace blindly.
This is a subject that must be handled with respect, patience, and honest public dialogue.
What This Means for Ordinary People
For now, ordinary Salvadorans do not need to panic.
No nuclear plant is opening tomorrow. No reactor is suddenly operating in the country. The first goal being discussed is research, training, and institutional development.
The law means that El Salvador now has an active legal framework for nuclear activity. It means any future steps must pass through authorization and regulation. It means emergency planning and penalties are now part of the national structure.
The major changes, if they come, will take years.
But now is the right time for citizens to pay attention.
