El Salvador’s Pacific coast came alive with movement and music as the Koningsdam docked at the Port of Acajutla, carrying 2,030 passengers and 856 crew members.
Operated by Holland America Line, the ship’s arrival highlights the continued growth of cruise tourism in El Salvador and reinforces the country’s place on international travel routes.
A Cultural Welcome in Acajutla
Passengers stepping onto Salvadoran soil were met with traditional dances, colorful costumes, and live performances, including “Adentro Cojutepeque,” elements of the Carnival of San Miguel, and the Torito Pinto.
This kind of reception has become part of the Acajutla experience. It offers visitors an immediate connection to El Salvador’s culture—warm, expressive, and deeply rooted in tradition.
A Cruise Route Connecting the Americas
The Koningsdam departed Florida on April 10, with stops in Cartagena, Panama, and Costa Rica before arriving in El Salvador. It will continue to Puerto Quetzal.
This route connects the Caribbean and Pacific regions, positioning El Salvador as a strategic and reliable stop for international cruise lines.
Tourism Impact Across Western El Salvador
Once ashore, passengers traveled throughout western and central El Salvador, supporting local transportation, tour operators, restaurants, and artisans.
The visit follows closely on the heels of the Eurodam, another major cruise ship that recently brought more than 2,000 visitors to Acajutla. Together, these arrivals indicate a steady, growing flow of maritime tourism.
Cruise Tourism Growth in El Salvador
With the Koningsdam’s visit, El Salvador reaches 14 cruise ship arrivals in the 2025–2026 season, including 11 so far this year.
This consistent increase reflects growing confidence from international cruise operators and signals long-term potential for the country’s tourism sector.
For coastal communities, these arrivals are no longer isolated events—they are becoming part of an ongoing economic rhythm.
